Aww Yea.

It’s nice when you work 12 hour day and come home to two packages of fresh stuff waiting on your porch.

My man Storm Davis sent down a box of goods from the PDP collective up in Providence. Check our recent post below for more info on these guys. Dope music for true hip-hop fans.

ANNNNNND…my long awaited NIKE ID’s came today and just in time for summer. It took me about a month after I got the gift card from my girlfriend for my birthday just to decide what I wanted. I waited for the Air Max 90’s to be the featured Men’s shoe in the members only site, and BAM!

Came up with these bad boys…Right out of the box…they just felt like they were meant for ME.

Sick…contrast stitching and all.

PDP Best Hip-Hop Act of Providence 2008!

Our boys holding it down up in Providence were recently voted “BEST HIP-HOP ACT” in the Providence Phoenix. Much respect and be sure to check out their latest mixtape “Shoot For Stars, Hit the Ceiling” which you can download HERE. Congrats, fellas.

*Peep the Aplomb gear…

Poorly Drawn People — Dox, Storm Davis, Entity, Reason, and DJ Sterby Rock — are crafting an aesthetic, and monstrous reputation, for the best damn hip-hop around. Davis, the de facto spokesman, attributes their success to a variety of factors, but one element in particular: “Ninety-eight percent of it has to do with the fact that we actually, sincerely don’t give a shit what anybody thinks,” says Davis. “Don’t get us wrong — we love validation, praise, applause, and whatever else people want to give us. But if we’re happy with it, we don’t care what anyone thinks.”

PDP met through mutual friends in the area hip-hop network. “The more time we spent together, the more respect we developed for each other,” says Davis. “Every time we played, I would get wowed. We thought about it: among us we could have four teams of one, or one team of four. That’s how we came together.” And the union grows more potent and effective each time they open their mouths. Their latest mix tapes, including Shoot for the Stars, Hit the Ceiling and Nothing Stays Gold, have been flying out and signs point to some serious success. “There’s no shortage of good feelings about ourselves,” admits Davis. “People wonder how you can fit this many gigantic egos into one room!” Many in the hip-hop arena feel that, despite those expectations, PDP is knocking on a special door. “We really want to be put on the field with the best, to see how we measure up” says Davis.

So what is PDP looking for? “Right now, time and money are the only things holding us back.”

Poorly Drawn People…

Storm Davis.

Reason.

Dox.

PDP is a not a rap group. They are a collaborative group of MCs, DJs and Producers slowly turning into an independant record label. I first met Storm Davis when I was at the Rhode Island School of Design producing music for Soul Cypher and performing on campus and around Providence. Storm was doing his thing as an artist, and was pretty well connected into the underground hip-hop scene in Providence. While I have since moved back to D.C., I still stay in touch with Storm and the crew members.  Much love and respect as they continue doing their thing up North.

Poorly Drawn People consists of Storm Davis, Reason, Dox, Sterbyrock, and Entity. Whether rapping, producing or deejaying…they are all true artists.

Poorly Drawn People has performed with artists like Kool Keith, LL Cool J, Apathy, Akrobatik, Mr Lif (Def Jux), 7L & Esoteric, Dream Warriors, The Last Emperor, Shabaam Sahdeeq (Rawkus), and Prolyphic (Strange Famous Records).

They have put out individual albums; see Storm Davis’ Kegstand Poetry (winner of the Providence Phoenix Best Music Poll Best Album of 2006), Reason’s Gemini Slang (rated 3.5 Stars by okayplayer.com), and Dusty Pickup, produced by Dox (”Dusty Pickup has all the makings of a classic album.” - rapreviews.com ) as well as mixtapes such as 2007’s Nothing Stays Gold (download free here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/evou08 ) and 2005’s Long Cold Winter.

They are currently working on their 2008 releases, tour dates and products.  Peep their information and daily updates on myspace and the website.

Definitely keep a lookout for Aplomb + PDP collaborations in the near future!
